2 Samuel 9-10; 1 Chronicles 18-19; Psalm 89; Acts 26

by Becky Hill Martin

Have you ever done something with the best intentions only to have it go terribly wrong? Congratulations = you passed the CAPTCHA test = you are human and a lot like David in 2 Samuel 9-10. He sent his ambassadors with his condolences to the new king of the Ammonites. His men were humiliated. David sent Joab and his armies to clean house, but the odds were stacked against them.

Joab reminded his troops to do their part – diligently prepare for battle and rely on God for victory (2 Samuel 10:12).  He didn’t tell them to sit back and watch while God intervened. He said: “Be courageous! Let us fight bravely for our people and the cities of our God. May the Lord’s will be done.”

As Christians, we are at war every day and the odds are stacked against us. Let Joab’s words remind us that we have the strength, through God to stand strong and fight. Our battle is a partnership – God has our back.
