2 Samuel 11-12; 1 Chronicles 20; Psalm 51, 32; Acts 27

2 Sam 11:27-….but the thing David had done displeased the Lord.

David’s sins are many in these chapters-lust, greed, pride, murder, lying.

David was favored by God, and had been for all of his life. God protected and empowered David with many great attributes.  God had blessed David with so much, and still greed and lust were more powerful than David’s gratitude.  And David was punished.  Severely.  Not because God  was angry, but because David was getting too big for his britches.  It appears David had a weak moment, and tried to fix it.  Cover it up, if you will, instead of asking for forgiveness right away. It cost David much.

But wait…there’s more-

Once David was willing to whole heartedly humbly ask for God’s forgiveness, he was once again blessed, and Solomon was conceived by the very point of David’s sin, Bathsheba.

David was known to worship God, so I find it hard to believe that he wasn’t praying and worshipping during this time. But what good were David’s words, while his actions betrayed Him.

God expects so much more than words.  He expects us to love those words. To honor those words.

My Loving, gracious and merciful Father,  You know every thought in my head and heart.  You know when I am merely moving my lips, while walking in sin. Convict me Lord. Use my sin to draw me closer to You. Thank You that today, if I ask forgiveness is a new day, and Your mercies are just as new.   In Jesus precious name… Amen
