Joshua 4-6; Luke 21

by Kelli Smith Simpkins

“There will be signs in the sun, moon, and the stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea.” Luke 21:25

You’ve probably heard by now that this Monday, April 8th will be the next solar eclipse. If you’ve been on social media, you may have seen people claiming the rapture will happen on that day. As with anything we see in the media, we need to use discernment, because it has gotten really crazy really quickly!

Luke 21:8 says, “Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming,’ “I am he,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not follow them.” Matthew 24:36 says, “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”

Is it possible that this is a sign? For sure! There are absolutely signs pointing to Christ’s return, which is a cause of celebration for those who have accepted Him. Is it also possible that some will use this as an opportunity to deceive others by trying to pinpoint Christ’s return? They already have. People are scared, y’all. Which tells me that they are in need of a Savior.

Let’s make sure that as we eagerly anticipate Christ’s return, we stay grounded in Biblical truth and not get taken away with internet theories and fear-mongering. Instead, let us pray for those who see Christ’s return as a scary thing and live our lives, however long they may be as if any day could be the day we will meet the Son of Man (Luke 21:36).
