“If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully keep all his commands that I am giving you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the world. ² You will experience all these blessings if you obey the Lord your God: (Deut. 28:1-2)

Obedience and Blessings

“How did you just do that?” As a kid, this was a question I would often ask while playing the video games. I asked this A LOT. We all have that one friend who actually takes time and reads the instructions to the game. Me, NAH! I get the game, rip open the package and start playing. The instructions: trash.

I was irritated my friend was doing things in the game that seemed like he was cheating. Was he? NOPE! I eventually learned to not trash that little useless pamphlet that stood in the way of me and endless hours of capturing the queen or scoring the next touchdown in the video game world.

Obedience does not have to be a game for me now. I have the opportunity to look to the words of God and allow them to instruct all the moves I make. This is difficult, cause my pride says I don’t need any stinking instructions, let’s just play! I have done that, and please hear me, it’s better to read the instructions of God than to “just play” in this life.

Prayer: LORD, thank you for giving us guidance and hope in the Bible. We can read and be blessed as we set our hearts on Your word. To experience the blessing of obedience and the power of Your presence. Amen.
