1 Kings 10-11; 2 Chronicles 9; 1 Timothy 6

“For the LOVE of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”
‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭6‬:‭10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Actually, ANYTHING we love more than God is the root of evil.

In 1Kings, Chapter 11, we witness the downfall of  King Solomon.  In 1 Kings 3:8-15, God speaks to Solomon, and gives him wisdom and power.  Still, with this,  Solomon chose self -satisfaction.  He seemed to forget where, and how, everything he had, came from.

As he spoke to the Queen Sheba, those words and thoughts, and physical things he shared with her were all from God.

God anoints us with gifts to better our lives here on earth.  If we take advantage of, or misuse these gifts this is displeasing to God.

I think about it this way- if I give a gift to someone, and never see them use it, or have it displayed to enjoy it, or if I give them a crystal vase and they invite me over to watch them use it as target practice, it is upsetting, even angers me.

Paul was encouraging Timothy to remind others of this.  Solomon would have been wise (see what I did there) to remember this as well.  To cling to God’s word, and be blessed, or lean into our own thinking, and using earthly things to find happiness is a losing battle. Happiness is fleeting, and we must constantly search for it. Joy, however, is found in the contentment of God’s gifts, big and small.

i may never have the worldly riches Solomon had, or write a book of proverbs that the whole world sees, but I’m so much more blessed than I deserve.

Today, I encourage to take a moment to thank God for His gifts!
