Job 21-23; Psalm 101; Revelation 16

by Becky Hill Martin

Job 23:10
But he knows where I am going. And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold.

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year?” Maybe or maybe not if you’re trying to find a parking space within a football field’s length from the entrance to Kroger because you used all the butter in the last batch of cookies you burned. That struggle is small compared to what many people are going through. And the holidays amplify the bad things as much as they do the good.

If you’re on a spiritual journey that has you more “bah humbug” than “holly jolly,” know that this trial by fire won’t last forever. God allows us to be tried to prove ourselves to Him and allow Him to prove He’s true to His Word. Like Job, we are being purified – not destroyed. When we have stubborn faith in God and know that He’s right there with us – even though we can see or feel Him, we become pure gold in His eyes.
