Leviticus 19-20; Hebrews 7

by Beck Hill Martin

“You must be holy because I, the Lord, am holy. I have set you apart from all other people to be my very own.” Leviticus 20:26

Can we just talk about the importance of instructions for a moment? Where would we be without them? Some things come with too many instructions like that hilarious blow dryer tag warning not to use it while sleeping – who does that? Or chain saws with stickers gently reminding us not to hold the wrong end – because, you know, safety first. Other things don’t come with enough instruction like life, or putting together the baby crib you ordered that came without a manual.

Sure – I can follow recipe instructions when I’m in the mood, have the time, and don’t decide to become a kitchen maverick. But seriously, imagine having to follow all the covenant instructions God handed Moses back in the day? I’d be in the priest’s office 24/7, like, “Hey, uh…I need you to make another sacrifice for me…please?”

Thank goodness, I came into the world after Jesus, holy and blameless, wiped the slate clean. He became the ultimate sacrifice – the one true holy priest and ushered in the final covenant with God. No more stressing over the do’s and don’ts thanks to the Bible and Holy Spirit. No more sacrificing lambs or memorizing covenant rules – just pure, unfiltered grace.
