Genesis 9-11; Mark 4

by Becky Hill Martin

“When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on earth.” Genesis 9:16

Imagine the relief Noah and his family must have felt when they finally got off the ark. Having been trapped for 3 hours in a car with shoeless softball players who played in 102-degree temps, I get the sense of urgency they felt to disembark. Noah was probably excited about the potential to start over, yet anxious about his new surroundings and the possibility for things to go sideways again.

That’s how I approach each new year – with excitement, anxiety, and a little trepidation. Luckily, there’s scripture for that. Lamentations 3:22–23 tells us, “Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for his mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness!” It’s like a daily reset button for divine love and mercy.

Since God’s mercies are brand new every single morning, it’s safe to say they’re definitely fresh for a whole new year too. The grace we got from God in the past year? It carries over into the new one, and it’s not stopping anytime soon.

No need to stress about whether our challenges or circumstances will block God’s mercy flow. Whether we’re dancing in joy, dealing with some pain, tackling trials, or facing troubles, God’s got our back. He’s going to be faithful through it all. This year is covered – every month, every week, every day, every minute is embraced by His grace.

It is mind boggling to me the amount of years that have passed and still God’s mercy and grace are just as new daily as they were when Noah stepped off of that ark! Thank You God for loving us so much!

And thank you Becky for these awesome words!

  3. Rena Cook says:

I have read the Bible through and know the story of Noah and the ark. But there’s lightbulbs going off for me
With what all Noah did and went through having Faith. I want God to see me as faithful as Noah. Really want God to see me pleasing and faithful in his eyes.
