Deuteronomy 1-3, Psalm 36, Luke 5

by Becky Hill Martin

“…Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!”  And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus.” Luke 5: 10-11

Imagine the scene: you’re knee-deep in your daily grind, hustling through life, and suddenly, this charismatic figure appears and invites you to a higher purpose. Talk about a plot twist! Jesus (arriving for the first time), tapping you on the shoulder and whispering, “It’s time!” Could you leave it all behind – your job, your comfy couch, and that Netflix subscription?

I’ve soaked up wisdom from TED Talks, got hyped from master classes, and even caught the vibe from TikToks, but leaving everything to follow someone? That’s a whole new level! But what if, like Moses and the Israelites, I missed my chance because fear held me back?

See, I’m guilty of being the one Jesus had to reassure with a “Don’t be afraid” before performing a miracle. Reading Luke 5, I realize that fear shouldn’t hold us back from walking the path God set for us.

Let’s break free from the chains of fear and embrace the adventure of walking with Jesus. Don’t miss God’s calling to seize the extraordinary and ditch the ordinary.
