Commands for Connection
Kids are interesting, at least our kids are. When told to do something, they often do not see how it connects us as a family if they obey our commands as parents. Yet, we have aspiring “teachers” in our home, or at least they remind me of the teachers from Mark 12:28.
When questioned about what the greatest command was, Jesus responds: The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.
These commands allows us to connect with GOD on the basis that is most beneficial for us. We as GOD’s children must understand these commands are not legalistic (to excessively keep a “law”), but Love!
LORD, teach us to Love you with all of selves and love our neighbor as ourselves, for these are commands for connection.
