Proverbs 19-21; Psalm 40; Romans 16
1 I waited patiently for the Lord to help me,
and he turned to me and heard my cry.
2 He lifted me out of the pit of despair,
out of the mud and the mire.
He set my feet on solid ground
and steadied me as I walked along. (Psalm 40:1-2)
Patience and perspective come to mind and both are vital in our waiting. We can be patient while we wait but put our hope and trust be in the wrong place and we later realize it and feel despair. Have you been there? I have waited patiently on Air Jordan shoes to come out and spend more money on them than a man should just to feel deflated once I have them. Why? My hope was that they would be better or nicer than the other 30 pair I already own. (disclaimer: I no longer do this, lol)*
David waited for the LORD to help him. I love how it says, “he turned to me and heard my cry.” The GOD of heaven and earth who created all things and sustains all things saw HIS child waiting for HIM and HE turned and did something that only HE can do. Yes, David could have something or someone get him out of his pit of despair, but eventually David knew that would not be the sustainment he needed.
When our perspective is on the ONE who sees us at all times, we can keep our eyes focused back on HIM. HE will put our feet on solid ground and steady us a we walk out our lives of faith and belief in JESUS. David, please close us out:
16 But may all who search for you
be filled with joy and gladness in you.
May those who love your salvation
repeatedly shout, “The Lord is great!”
17 As for me, since I am poor and needy,
let the Lord keep me in his thoughts.
You are my helper and my savior.
O my God, do not delay. (Psalm 40:16-17)
