Deuteronomy 15-18; Psalm 115; Luke 9
Those who make them become like them;
so do all who trust in them. (Psalm 115:8)
You Become What You Worship
I am sadly guilty of this when I was younger. I remember wanting to “be like Mike” growing up. I had all of his shoes as a young adult and even tried to play basketball like him. I was literally trying to become Michael Jordan. I think we all have stories like this. Wanting so badly to be someone we truly admire.
But the Psalmist here has a focus on the Lord. We often downgrade our identity by trying to be someone else.
I distinctly remember someone saying, “don’t ever meet your hero. It has been said to be unwise to seek personal acquaintance with people whom one has regarded with high esteem, as they often fail to fulfill one’s expectations, resulting in disappointment.
Not so with God! Once you have met Jesus, your expectations are blown out of the water cause He exceeds all we can imagine. So we must worship Jesus, for we truly must become like Him, just like He became like us, to save our souls.
Prayer: Lord, give us the desire to worship You alone and not idols of this world. Grant us the grace to know You alone are worthy of worship both now and forevermore…Amen.
