1 Samuel 1-2; Psalm 120; Acts 5

by Faith Brady

Again a mother makes a Nazarite vow for her unborn child.  It didn’t turn out so well for Samson but Samuel is a different story.  As Samuel is ministering in the temple with Eli remember he is just a boy.  1 Samuel 2:26 reminds me of Luke 2:52 “And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.”

Samuel was also growing in stature and favor with God and man.  Then there was Eli’s sons…worthless fellows!  Why?  “They did not know the Lord.” 1 Samuel 2:12. All three grew up under the same man, in the temple and yet 2 of them didn’t even know God.  Just like us, we can have been raised in the church, raised by Godly parents, went to Bible School but still not know God.

How do we “know” God?  We spend time reading his word, talking to him, inquiring about decisions in our lives, fellowshipping with people who know God, and yes attending church.  It is a personal decision each of us must make.  You aren’t getting to heaven on grandma’s beliefs.  Don’t put that on her, it’s a decision you must make.  Admit you are a sinner and can’t save yourself, believe that Jesus is God’s son and that he died to save you and rose again on the 3rd day, then tell him you want Him to be your Lord and Savior!  Then tell someone else.  Don’t be a “worthless fellow”.  God desires so much more for you!!
