Joshua 22-24; Psalm 116; Luke 19

by Faith Brady

Be very careful, therefore, to love the Lord your God. – Joshua 23:11

Joshua knew that the Israelites would be tempted by the gods of their neighbors.  They would be so easily swayed when he was gone.  Remember it only took 40 days for them to build a golden calf when Moses was on the mountain.  It doesn’t take much for us to take our eyes off of God.

It’s been 3 days since Easter Sunday…how have you done?  Have you been in his word?  Have you been talking to Him?  Listening to him?  It’s been 3 days…what was the sermon about on Sunday?  Joshua gave the people a choice; serve God or serve the gods of the heathens around you.  We also have a choice.  Whom will you serve?  Not which church will you attend, which god will you serve?

If you are placing something in your life above your service to God you are making it your god.  Joshua gave the people a warning that I think we can heed as well: Joshua 24:20 “If you forsake the Lord and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you harm and consume you, after having done you good.”

Our God is a jealous God!  He wants you, all of you!
