Amos 1-3; Matthew 13

23 The seed that fell on good soil represents those who truly hear and understand God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!” (Matthew 13.23)

Hear and understanding God’s word leads to the results that glorify God and is also for our good. The question I often get in regards to Bible reading is “how?” How do I read God’s word Pastor? It is so confusing. I don’t understand what’s going on and how to make it make sense.

Notice, in this verse the word hear is before the word understand. I define reading as “listening with the eyes” and we must began the journey of producing a harvest by first listening. As we read in Amos today, God is speaking, “this is what the Lord says” is repeated over and over. We must listen, hear what God is saying to us.

My challenge and prayer for you is that you put yourself in ear shot of God’s Word. That we all humble ourselves to truly hear God’s Word. As we hear His Word we pray for understanding from the One who gave it to us. That we wrestle with tough passages of Scripture and that we also embed God’s word into our hearts and lives. Often, reading the Bible leads to the Bible reading us and leading us, and that is a wonderful harvest. Be productive for the Kingdom of God.

  • Call to action: Set a schedule for daily reading of God’s Word. Make it realistic and consistent and create space for God’s Word in your schedule.
