Song of Solomon 4-6; 2 Thessalonians 1
2 My lover has gone down to his garden,
to his spice beds,
to browse in the gardens
and gather the lilies.
3 I am my lover’s, and my lover is mine.
He browses among the lilies. (Song of Solomon 6:2-3)
We see early in the Bible the connection made between man and woman. In Genesis 2 we find Adam saying, “this is bone of my bone, and flesh of my flesh.” (Gen. 2:23) Adam declared that Eve was like him and from him, a unity that GOD had put together, and what GOD puts together, let no man separate. (Mark 10:9)
This loyalty has been attacked since it was announced and continues to this day. Satan and the world puts forth a full on assault on Biblical marriage and GOD ordained unity. This is a reflection of what happens with our relationship with CHRIST. CHRIST has unified us to HIM and Satan fights every moment to disconnect this unity. Satan’s power is not stronger than the blood of CHRIST, so Satan attacks our belief.
Yet, let us echo the words above, “I am my lover’s, and my lover IS MINE.”
These verses show us how much beauty and blessing are in our covenant unity under GOD, in marriage to our spouses and in our unity of love in CHRIST and HIS church (the Body of Believers). Today, let us take a stand to guard our love for our spouses and CHRIST and reject the attempts of physical and spiritual adultery (cheating) that Satan sets before us…for we belong to CHRIST, and CHRIST has given HIMself to us.
