1 Kings 8; Psalm 30; 1 Timothy 3

by Faith Brady

“But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain you; how much less this house that I have built!”  – 1 Kings 8:27

Praise God, yes, he will dwell on earth!  His only son will come to be “God With Us” Emmanuel – the Merriam Webster dictionary says the etymology of this word is -Middle English Emanuel, from Late Latin Emmanuel, from Greek Emmanouēl, from Hebrew ʽimmānūʼēl, literally, with us is God!!!  With us is God!!

“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).” Matthew 1:23

As wise as Solomon was he could not imagine that one day God would come out of that temple and walk and talk with us.  It took one last sacrifice to atone for all the sin of mankind.  Solomon sacrificed 22,000 oxen and 120,000 sheep so many that the altar couldn’t hold it “because the bronze altar that was before the Lord was too small to receive the burnt offering and the grain offering and the fat pieces of the peace offerings.” (1 Kings 8:64).

Our God sacrificed his only son on a cross and people put him in a tomb that was too small to hold him because he rose 3 days later.  If that doesn’t get your blood pumping you might need to get checked out.  We can never out sacrifice the Lord.  He gave EVEN THOUGH he knew people would reject him.  He gave SO THAT I could have a relationship with him!  So I will say what the psalmist said in Psalm 30:12 “that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!”
