Deuteronomy 15-18; Psalm 115; Luke 9

Laws Concerning Israel’s King

Foreshadowingan indication of what is to come.  The Lord knew that Israel would want a king like everyone else.  He went ahead and told them what to do when they got to that point.  “you may indeed set a king over you whom the Lord your God will choose. One from among your brothers you shall set as king over you. You may not put a foreigner over you, who is not your brother.” – Deut 17:15.

Later we will read and in Acts 13:21 it is restated “Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.”  In 1 Samuel when they did ask for a king, God told Samuel to tell them what to expect from that king and 6 times he says “and he will take from you”.  God was to be their king.

They wanted what they could see, what they could touch and it would cost them.  Whatever you have in your life that is taking the place of God is going to cost you.  It may cost you your happiness, your livelihood, your family, your health.  It will cost you.

A life surrendered to God is a life that is blessed.  Not easy, not popular but blessed.  Psalm 115:12-13 “ The Lord has remembered us; he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron; he will bless those who fear the Lord, both the small and the great.”  Be blessed today and be a blessing to others.  🌸🌺🌼
