1 Kings 2; 1 Chronicles 29; Romans 7

by Faith Brady

David is gone.  Before he dies he gave instructions to Solomon.  “Be strong, and show yourself a man, and keep the charge of the Lord your God, walking in his ways and keeping his statutes, his commandments, his rules, and his testimonies,” 1 Kings 2:2-3.  There are rules even for the ruler.  Walk in God’s ways, keep His statutes, keep His commandments, keep His rules and His testimonies.  We know from the Bible that David was a man after God’s own heart and Solomon was the wisest man.  Not because they were perfect, they were not.  Because they did these things.  They walked in God’s ways.  They remembered the past and tried to not repeat the disobedience of their ancestors.  They kept God’s statutes and taught them to the next generation.  David’s prayer of blessing in 1 Chronicles 29 reminds me of the doxology we repeat during worship
“Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heav’nly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.”

“Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of Israel our father, forever and ever. Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all…”1 Chronicles 29:10b-11
That is a great prayer to start our day putting God where he belongs. FIRST!  🥇
