But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. (James 1.22)
You ever do something dumb? Then after you did it, people close to you tell you, “yeah, I knew that was dumb when I saw you doing it.”
Well, well, well, thanks a lot. Sometimes we can fool ourselves into thinking things and acting certain ways when it is dumb all along. We are just fooling ourselves, and no one else. Just as it would be unwise (dumb) to read the Bible and not do what it says. I know I have been “dumb” in this regard.
I do not make it my business to call people names, but I will make an exception on this one account. To know and not “do” makes us literally dumb. We learned in Jeremiah today (17:9) how wicked our hearts are. We must take the medicine of God’s Word to deal with our sin soaked lives and hearts.
LORD, help us to be doers of your Word, not just listeners…for that would be ________ .
